Indian Government sets out regulations for social media, OTT platforms

The Centre’s guidelines are coming to stop the misuse of social media. Under which strict surveillance will continue. Union Information and Technology Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad on Thursday announced the immediate issuance of the guidelines. Controversial and offensive posts will be monitored.

Overall, social media policy will be created. Usually, as we see, before launching a movie, approval has to be sought from the concerned agency, just like that, an authority will be created on social media, from whom permission has to be taken.

Such guidelines can be seen in China, which is why companies like Google cannot do business there. Indian Govt is starting to monitor social media with similar guidelines.

On the other hand, new rules are being introduced for OTT platforms. OTT platforms including Netflix, ZEE 5, Amazon Prime, which are popular in India at the moment, The Center will propose a series of guidelines on that OTT platform and will impose a ban.

In other words, what could have been created or posted for free on the OTT platform, which did not fall under any rules, will not happen again. Additionally, once the new guidelines come into effect, users will be fined or sanctioned for spreading false news via WhatsApp or Facebook. Various guidelines are also being issued to stop fake news.
