Google Meet introduced the desktop noise canceling feature for mobile devices on Android and iOS . This feature is very useful for those working from home in a noisy environment who prefer to use Meet on a smartphone.
How does the sound reduction feature work?
Like the PC version, noise reduction filters out sounds that don’t sound like speech. This means that noises such as typing, construction noise, or closing a door will be avoided, but the feature cannot block out sounds from the TV or other people speaking in the room. The feature is turned off by default, so if you want to use it, you need to enable sound reduction. Google , if your conversation is not primarily conversational, e.g. If it is about playing the musical instrument, it recommends turning off the mute feature.
The new feature is part of a series of big changes Google is making to keep up with its main rival Zoom .
Low-light mode, tiled layouts, backgrounds and background blur have recently been added to the desktop. G Suite Enterprise and G Suite Enterprise for Education users will have noise cancellation on mobile devices in the coming days.
