The new Dacia Sandero, one of the cheapest cars in its class, offers 4.2 centimeters more legroom in the rear seat. It is therefore more than ever suitable as a family car. The model has also been radically modernized.
The new Dacia Sandero and Sandero Stepway rest on the CMF-B platform of Renault-Nissan, on which the latest Renault Clio and Nissan Juke are also built.
Under the hood are the latest one-liter three-cylinder of the group, in three variants: an atmospheric SCe 65, a TCe 90 with turbo and an Eco-G 100 on LPG.
The LPG tank of the latter is located in the trunk in place of the spare wheel, giving the Dacia Sandero Eco-G a total driving range of no less than 1,300 km.
Prices of the new generation are not yet known. The current generation is for sale from € 12,830. The new Sandero has the same technical basis as the Renault Clio, Captur and Nissan Juke. The wheelbase has therefore been increased by 1.5 centimeters.
Not only has legroom in the rear seat increased by 4.2 centimeters, the luggage compartment has also grown by 8 liters.
It now has 328 liters. At the Stepway, the ground clearance has been increased by 4.1 centimeters to 17.4 centimeters.
Other innovations that stand out are the door handles and the unlocking of the tailgate is now invisible. The interior includes a new 8-inch large screen for the infotainment, which is placed separately on the dashboard. Navigation, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are possible.
Inside, Dacia promises a better finish and choice of materials, while the Sandero also gets more equipment to increase comfort. There is 42 millimeters of extra legroom in the rear, the driver’s seat can now be adjusted in height and you also have height and depth adjustment for the steering wheel.
Also new are the automatic air conditioning with digital weighing system, a reversing camera, an electric boot lid and a sliding glass roof.
In terms of infotainment, you have three choices: Media Control (a smartphone holder), Media Display (an infotainment screen with smartphone link) or Media Nav (infotainment screen with navigation).
The new Sandero also comes directly as Stepway, which gets cross-overlooks thanks to all-round bottom guards and a higher ground clearance, especially thanks to the larger tires. Nice are the roof rails that can be transformed into a roof rack with a special key.
Both variants now also have driver assistance systems such as automatic brake assist, blind spot assist and hill start assistance. Dacia talks about a still low price, but we do not yet have concrete rates.
